Despite the frequent underreporting of aggression and conflicts, evidence indicates that environmental factors in prison institutions significantly contribute to levels of misconduct, reactive aggression, infractions, and violence.
Reactive aggression typically stems from perceptions of threat, danger, provocation, or frustration, and is often accompanied by feelings of anger and rage.
Effectively managing reactive aggressive behaviors is crucial not only for the successful release and reintegration of incarcerated individuals but also for preventing misconduct and victimisation. It stands as a primary intervention goal in prison settings worldwide.
The VR4React project is dedicated to addressing this through direct engagement with the incarcerated population and prison officers.
For prison officers, the VR4React project aims to enhance key competencies for responding effectively to reactive aggressive behaviors. This will be achieved through a blended-learning, technology-enhanced training program that integrates e-learning with a Virtual Reality component, allowing prison officers to acquire and practice critical skills and behaviors necessary for managing reactive aggression.
